Le Grand Vefour and Pierre Gagnaire
Posted on Tuesday, December 6, 2011

Whenever I go to France it is always centered around where I want to eat.  I have always wanted to eat at Pierre Gagnaire.  However, the last time I was in France it was the first week of September and they were just coming off the August holiday.  They were closed.

This year I got lucky and booked online.  Alongside that we ate at Le Grand Vefour, again a restaurant I’ve always wanted to attend.  Not really because of the food, although it has really stepped up, but because of its history.  Le Grand Vefour has been around for centuries.  Napoleon wooed Josephine, Jean Anouilh, Giradoux, and Jean Genet, among many, many others.  The restaurant, though petit is beautifully ornate.  Lots of mirrors, gold and intricate tile inlays.

The chef at Vefour is Guy Martin and he has brought a real modern touch to the classic ambience. I took some pics to share with you.

Pierre Gagnaire was “superbe”.  Everything I expected.  The man of many plates did not disappoint.  The amuse was five different plates with so many little minute tastes.  And then came course after course until dessert and mignardise.  Again, I have photos to share.

It’s okay, you can be jealous.....  Just a tease
